The Novo Rio Pinheiros program, by the State Government of São Paulo, coordinated by the Department of Infrastructure and Environment, initiated works on the Cooperative for the Ponte Baixa basin.
Jeanne Maria Barros, the community leader, stated: “The cool thing about the cooperative is that it is based inside the area where our scavengers live. Access becomes much easier when they sell the collected materials there, it improves their income as well as the region’s traders’ income.”
